Types of steel scrap
MS scrap means mild-steel scrap. HMS means heavy melting steel scrap. Light melting scrap is thinner and lighter steel. Shredded scrap is steel that has been broken into smaller pieces. Each type can have a different price.
Why steel scrap prices differ
A heavy steel plate is different from a thin mixed household item. Buyers look at the amount of useful steel, how clean the material is and how much work is needed before it can be sold or recycled again.

- Keep copper, brass and aluminium away from steel.
- Separate heavy pieces from light mixed scrap.

How to compare prices
Make sure two quotes are for the same type of material. A ₹36/kg quote for clean heavy steel should not be compared directly with a ₹30/kg quote for mixed light scrap unless the material is actually the same.
